The Attendant

The Attendant

The young man
in the booth
sits up straight.
The sound of
the engine brings
him to attention.
He smiles and waves
as I pull the ticket
out of the machine
then leans back
in the chair again.
What does he
daydream about
as he watches the cars
pull in and out?
Designing a skyscraper?
Sculpting like Rodin?
Graduation?
His next exam?
Another family
dinner missed or
the number of hours
left in his shift?

How often do you daydream? What do you think triggers a daydream?

Fall Flash

Fall Flash

The trees are
adorned in color
before all their
leaves are lost.
They garner gazes
of admiration then
are stripped of
ornamentation.
They become
skeletons left
out in the cold.

Do you enjoy the fall foliage? Do you notice how a view changes when the trees lose their leaves?

Picture Perfect

Picture Perfect

Through the lens,
I see a world I
never saw before.
The beauty of
a single petal.
A leaf that
curls up
on a branch.
The rhythm of
a butterfly's wings.
I see details
I used to pass by,
freeze them in time,
keep them alive.

Do you see life in details or generalities?

Art Works

Art Works

Art
works on our senses.
relieves our stress.
heals our hurts.
touches our hearts.
opens our minds.
unlocks our memories.
changes us forever.

How do you see art working in the world?

First Shift

First Shift

The bees are
 attracted to
 the new blooms.
Two alight on
opposite sides,
face each other,
work their
own territory.
They labor
without a break
until they hear
the buzzing
that signals
the shift change.

Are the bees working in your garden? My sedum plant is drawing a crowd.

Lift your head
See the possibilities
Don't stay on the shore
The world begs
to be explored
Set your sights
Dive in and swim

What do you like to explore? Do you like to try new things?

Roller Coasters

 Roller Coasters

Make the slow climb
then the steep drop.
Jerk around corners.
Lean into curves.
Slow down on the
final straightaway.
Come to a full stop.
Empty out while
new riders watch
with anticipation.

What do you see in the dips and curves of the trees? Do you have a favorite roller coaster?

Overtime

Overtime

The moon glows
as though it
had just risen.
A bright beacon
against a blue background,
just out of reach
of the dark clouds.
It continues to shine,
not ready to
surrender morning
to the sun.

Do you look for the moon in the morning? Are you surprised by how often it is visible? Have you ever written about the morning moon?

Sunscreen

Sunscreen

Light pours down
through the trees and
touches the leaves.
They become a
translucent shield
through which we
glimpse the sun
without hurting
our eyes.
